Max Diaz is a sixteen-year-old Pisces from Texas. Read more to find out about his thoughts on breakfast foods and socks with Crocs.

OFF THE RECORD: On your website, you have the following quote: “It doesn’t matter what you look like or how the product looks like, it's what it sounds like.” What does this mean to you?

MAX DIAZ: that quote is originally from kurt cobain, one of my biggest idols. it gave me confidence to really get into music.

OTR: As you continue to grow, what’s the number one thing you look forward to as your platform expands?

MAX: getting more and more equipment to make complex and better songs. I think some synths and 80s drum sounds would be cool.

OTR: I read that some of your biggest inspirations are Nirvana, Mac DeMarco, Foo Fighters, and Tame Impala. What other artists inspire you? Any music recommendations for the good of the group?

MAX: the biggest influence on me right now is lemmy from motörhead. his attitude and sound is out of this world. him and joy division / new order are really what I love to hear. I suggest you listen to all of them.

OTR: Favorite song that you’ve made thus far?

MAX: my song “say goodbye” on my debut album again.

OTR: I don’t know if you watch movies, but I happen to love them. What is your favorite movie, and if you could switch lives with any movie character, who would it be and why?

MAX: I love movies. I think if I could, I’d switch lives with remi from ratatouille. being a rat who cooks bomb a** food and is in paris? That sounds like the dream.

OTR: I also read that you produce your own music. Is it ever difficult? Or is there something like creatively freeing about being able to be in control of your own sound?

MAX: well that’s a good question. I think I’m in love with how difficult the creative freedom can be sometimes. It was difficult at first but now that I’m used to it, I can just pop right in the studio and cook something up.

OTR: As your audience grows, is it weird going to school, or is most everything the same?

MAX: It was a little weird. people would come up to me and just start being nicer, and actual fans would come up and tell me how much they like it. I think it’s really nice, but I hate when people say they’re nervous to talk to me. I’m a normal human being; I would never put myself in a position of higher class or “do you know who I am?”; that’s disgusting.

OTR: What are your feelings on socks and crocs?

MAX: do what makes you happy. sounds comfortable.

OTR: What show are you currently binging? Any TV show recommendations?

MAX: right now it’s jackass, the office (basic, right?), bojack horseman, breaking bad, f is for family, samurai jack, venture brothers, and 90 day fiancé. I suggest you watch all of these!

OTR: Pb&J or grilled cheese?

MAX: grilled cheese.

OTR: How do you feel about breakfast food? Is eating breakfast food for dinner acceptable?

MAX: food doesn’t have time. it’s like the same thing when people watch old movies, and people say, “that movies old. why are you watching that?” movies don’t have expiration dates.

OTR: If you were a color, what color do you think you would be?

MAX: baby blue just because it reminds me of my childhood.
